• Thank you for your interest in hosting an event to support R U OK? and our mission to build a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide.

We are an Australian charity and do not accept registrations or provide support for events or activities outside Australia.

Our resources are designed for the Australian market and we have guidelines surrounding what can and can’t be used outside of Australia. Please refer to our Guide to supporting R U OK? outside of Australia which explains this in more detail.

    We appreciate your understanding.

  • R U OK? Commmunity Ambassador Availability

PLEASE NOTE: Our network of Ambassadors are volunteers who donate their time to share their experience and the R U OK? message. This means ambassadors are not always available at all times throughout the year. We manage requests based on ambassador availability and we will not begin the allocation process until two months before the scheduled event date (or in July in relation to R U OK?Day events).

Please don't request a speaker if this timeline doesn’t meet your needs.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • R U OK? Commmunity Ambassador Presentation

Please do not request a speaker if you are still in the planning stages of your event and do not have confirmed details (e.g., time, location, audience) as we cannot consider incomplete requests.

To help us source the most appropriate Ambassador you will be required to provide detailed information about your speaker requirements

  • Important information - please read

  • Requesting an R U OK? Community Ambassador Presentation

R U OK? believes in sharing stories of lived experience and hope to inspire and empower all Australians to support to those in their world who might be struggling with life.

Community Ambassadors are members of a network of volunteers across Australia who represent R U OK? and share our passion for starting regular, meaningful conversations with those in our world who may be struggling with life. Ambassadors will deliver a 30-45 minute presentation.

R U OK? will make every effort to coordinate a local Ambassador for you however please be aware, the volunteer nature of the role, the location of your event and demand for our speakers are factors that mean we are not always able to fulfil Ambassador requests.

In the event we cannot assist there are alternative resources available which our team will share with you. These include:

    • A powerpoint presentation deck which you or one of your colleagues could use in a presentation to share the R U OK? message.
    • You can also view a recording of our most recent free virtual event which features conversation tips and personal stories.
  • Duty of Care to Audience

Our Community Ambassadors have been trained in safe storytelling however audience members may experience thoughts and feelings during the event that could affect their emotional and physiological state.

When organising and introducing your event please carefully consider the physical and social environment to help participants feel safe and supported. When planning an R U OK? event we recommend you consider the following:

    • Inform participants and presenters of the nature of the event
    • Allow participants to opt out of attending the event
    • Those presenting/participating may wish to bring a support person
    • Ensure safe language is used throughout the event – please refer to Mindframe guidelines
    • Have staff/volunteers to greet people at the entry point
    • Ensure staff/volunteers know the location of bathroom facilities and emergency exits
    • Ensure opening comments include a content warning (if event material requires one)
    • Make a private place available for anyone who wishes to take a break during the event, and identify that place during the opening comments
    • Have trained staff on site to provide counselling support if needed and inform attendees who they are and where to find them
    • Make trained staff available for de-briefing with presenters
    • Have water/refreshments available and schedule breaks

This checklist was adapted from the Mental Health Coordinating Council www.mhcc.org.au

  • Ambassador Wellbeing

Please be aware that due to their own lived experience our Community Ambassadors might sometimes have to decline an engagement on short notice. R U OK? works closely with Ambassadors to ensure they are well and able to deliver  presentations and this is a rare occurrence however we ask for your understanding should an Ambassador not be available for your event.

  • Unfortunately we cannot consider your speaker request on this occasion.

When holding events of this nature it is important to safeguard the wellbeing of those attending and of our volunteer Community Ambassadors.

Our guidelines have been developed using best practice and are used across the mental health sector in Australia.

For Community Ambassadors to meaningfully engage with an audience, share the R U OK? message and their lived experience story they require a minimum of 30-45 minutes. If you are seeking someone to deliver a short speech, perhaps a team member in your organisation can utilise our suite of resources and champion the R U OK? message. We also have a number of videos that might be appropriate for you to share at your event.

  • Donations

Community Ambassadors are volunteers however some organisations like to offer a donation to R U OK? by way of thanks and to support our work.

Funding from our R U OK? Community Ambassador Partner, Connor Menswear enables us to train and support our Ambassadors however we appreciate all support that helps us deepen our community engagement and reach.

We understand this is not always possible and it does not affect how we manage speaker requests.
